Disaster on Everest
Prologue
Lately I haven’t had much gaming time at the table with my wife, since we have a brand new baby girl to raise. Games that can be played solo a bit more interesting to me, now. This is where Disaster on Everest, a solitaire game that simulates a group of hikers scaling Mount Everest. In this review I’ll let you know how the game plays and if it is an entertaining experience.
Review: 7 Wonders – More than just a simple filler!
Prologue
Even though 7 Wonders shot to the top of the hotness, I was initially uninterested. This is mostly because of the little research I did on the game didn’t make it sound like anything all that different than any other games out there. Granted, most of the stuff I was reading was just comparing 7 Wonders to Fairy Tale. And while I like Fairy Tale, I didn’t need another version that didn’t even play well with 2 players.
So then a buddy in my gaming group mentioned to me that he really wanted to try it because it has a civilization building element and that it would work with his family. He added it to an order with a few other games, one of which (Showmanager) was delayed over and over again. Itching to get the game in hand, he actually ordered another copy with a recent order that I made. What this meant for me, was that he would have an extra copy available. After a few plays with him, my fiancée and I, my better half “instructed” me to pick up this game. So, of course, I listened!
Review: Last Night on Earth – A great intro to Ameritrash.
Prologue
My first experience with Flying Frog games came after picking up A Touch of Evil (AToE) over a year ago. I was looking for something in the horror realm, but simple enough to be able able to play with my, then, girlfriend. Unfortunately after a few solo plays and a couple plays with my other gaming partner, I realized that it just wasn’t the experience I was looking for.At this point you might be asking yourself “Then why did you pick up Last Night on Earth?” OK, maybe you’re not asking yourself that, but it would be a valid question if you were! During one of our game nights, the subject of Last Night on Earth (LNoE) type games came up and I mentioned that I really didn’t enjoy AToE, although maybe I was just missing something or needed to play more of the advanced scenarios. To my surprise I was told that they are two very different games and I should get LNoE a try.
The Swarm: Don’t mess with seaples!
Prologue
Not too often would a game with only 1 review on BGG interest me enough to purchase it, but The Swarm has a few things going for it that many of those other games do not. For starters, the designers Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer (Tikal, Tikal II and the soon-to-be released Artus) are two of the most respected and accomplished boardgame designers in the industry. Secondly, the theme is simply very unique. Each player in the role of leading a research team set on discovering the unknown marine life that has started to destroy the ecosystem. Fortunately The Swarm popped up on Tanga one day so I decided to pull the trigger.

Review: Is BoardGameExchange.com really Netflix for board games?
Over the past few years, the board gaming hobby has become very expensive for someone who wants to stay current with all the releases throughout the year. With games retailing anywhere between $10 to $70, many gamers has to pick and choose the games they want to invest in. That is, unless there was a way to be able to play these games without having to commit to the full purchase price. This is where BoardGameExchange.com comes into the picture.
